God is close

Day Six in our search for God in the public square…

So, we’re standing here. We’ve picked up the ball. Now what? Many of us don’t know how to pray. We’ve got the memorized prayers maybe, but those can lose us in a second, especially if we don’t know what they mean anyway! This is not comfortable territory! We can’t see God. We can’t hear God. We can’t reach out and touch God.

Come on, now! Let’s admit it! We’re more spirit than we are physical! What are thoughts? What are dreams? What is intuition, gut reactions, inklings? Are these not the avenues God uses to speak to us, to guide, comfort, encourage, turn us in another direction? God is much closer than we think!

Sit a moment. Focus on your mind, your heart. Breathe deeply. What bubbles up? Chances are, that’s where God wants to go. Is it guilt, shame, anxiety? Start there. If you were God, what would you say to you? Maybe you’re already familiar with God’s voice within?

We are made in God’s image and likeness. How do we think this plays out in real life?

Prayer

Dear God, You are within me. Help me to find You. Help me to heed You. Help me to trust You. It’s not easy to give You time every day, but, oh, I want to! I want to feel held. I want to be strong. I want to know this world is going somewhere good. Amen.
