Miracles abound

I wonder if we know what a miracle is. They are all around us, but we aren’t aware.

We’ve been taught that miracles are outside the ordinary, above the natural, occurring without our participation, beyond explanation. Given this definition, many of the miracles God works in our lives go unnoticed.

I have a different definition of a miracle. Miracles, to me, are events that occur over time that would never have occurred if God had not opened our eyes, guided our minds, pushed our hands. Miracles are what happens when grace soaks through our hard-heartedness, when we make a connection despite our blindness, when our need is met in a way that we realize was not just our doing.

Given that definition, miracles abound, and why? Because God loves. It’s as simple as that.

God is walking right beside you. Acknowledge him. Work with him. Miracles await.

Reflection

Ask God to show you the miracles occurring around you and in you right now.

Prayer

I’m ready to see miracles, God. Not the kind that defies nature. I want to see how you open my eyes, how you guide my mind, how you push my hands. I want grace to soak right through my hard-heartedness. I want to become un-blind! I want to sense you here, working right along with me. I want to see, God. Amen.
