Pick up the ball
Day Four in our search for God in the public square…
There’s always an “if” in our relationship with God. We want to think the ball’s in God’s court, and we put it there with our veiled and not so veiled thoughts and words: “If God is all powerful, then…:” “If God would have answered me…;” and “Why did God make the world like this!”
And even some “veterans” of God’s think the ball is in God’s court, like the ones who mouth God-talk but don’t go anywhere near the edge of the boat God is longing for us to get out of.
These are all ways to chicken out of seeing the ball laying squarely at our feet. And, oh, God wants us to pick it up!
God doesn’t work the way we’ve been taught! We’ve been taught to look outside of nature, and because of this, God will comply at times. But nature is God’s domain! God created it, fashioned it, and told us through Christ to study it, learn from it, and abide by it.
Nature is God’s playing ground. Pick up the ball. See!
Reflection
Are you looking in the wrong direction for God? If God is HERE (and God is), what is it in you that dismisses this or downplays it?
Prayer
Dear God, you made the “nature of things” I move in everyday. You speak through this, teach through this, love through this. There is far more to following/relating with You than I realize. The ball is here at my feet. May I pick it up. May I have the courage to pick it up.
