God was aware…

I don’t remember being aware of God until I was ten years old. We didn’t attend church regularly. But, at ten, my mother sent me to a sort of make-up class for Catholic kids (I’d been baptized Catholic). There, the teacher, Bernadette Crowe, gave me a Bible, the very Bible that sits in front of me right now, some 48 years later. This was the beginning of my conscious journey with God. It wasn’t, however, the beginning of God’s journey with me.

God was aware of me before he placed my soul within the womb of my mother. He created me with the tools I would need, the talents I could use, the mind that, with His help, would withstand what was to come. My not being aware of God had no bearing on God’s awareness of me. I was held by the love, the strength, the creativity of God from day one.

There is something about God’s awareness. I can be aware of another, and that other has little to no awareness of me in return. In the moments of my awareness, I exercise no real ability to impact the other positively or negatively (apart from God, that is). But with God, the story is very different. God’s awareness is potent! It actually brings about all that God wants for the soul…

“… so is my word that goes forth out of my mouth; it will not return to me idle, but it shall accomplish my will, the purpose for which it has been sent.” (Isaiah 55:11)

God’s awareness was active within me from the moment of my conception. It was active at every moment of my life. It was active in every moment of your life.

Reflection

How does knowing that God has always held you in His awareness make you feel?

What impact upon your life has God’s awareness of you had?

Prayer

Dear God, I am hesitant to even consider the impact of your awareness of me. You’re supposed to be all-powerful, right? That means You could have, but didn’t, stop what I went through. And now I’m to believe Your awareness of me held me and did, in fact, impact my life? Show me how, God. I feel all alone. Show me how. Amen.
