He’s waiting

Jesus will come find us, sitting in our holes, hiding in our corners. He’ll whisper to us. He’ll share with us who we really are, our true self, the gift we’re meant to give the world.

This is what happens when we’re in proximity with God. Oh, sure, we can experience a grandeur that belongs to God — through nature, through the beauties we’re gifted to perceive. But, what is shared too is the grandeur of who we are, who we’re supposed to be, who we can be, if we’ll choose to follow God out of our holes and our corners.

Remember Jesus walking on water toward the boat where His disciples sat? (cf Matthew 22:14ff) Oh, how He wanted every one of them to step out and dance there on the water with Him! Only one did. Oh, how He wants each of us to defy the powers that keep us down, wounded, silent, afraid.

Sometimes I wonder if Jesus stops coming back — if we keep returning to our holes and our corners. Maybe, once He’s shared that vision of who we are and who we can be, maybe He remains out there, on the water. And, maybe, we realize our holes and our corners are the boat.

He’s waiting.

Reflection

We have to find a balance between what God does for us and what we do in conjunction with God. Are you expecting God to do something for you without your participation?

Prayer

Okay, Lord, I know I’m in the boat, watching You out there walking on the water — walking on all the things (fear) that keep me wedged in this corner of the boat. I want You to do it all! I don’t want to have to stand up and put my foot over the edge. Me, walking on top of all that has (and is) keeping me down?! Really?
