See?

I hate it when those I love are suffering. I hate it more than when suffering hits me. I turn to God and, in effect, say, “Hurry!” It doesn’t look as though God hurries, does it?

Oh, we need to invite God to train these eyes of ours!

“Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know the whole of it.” (Psalm 139:4)

God is already there. Do you see?

If you don’t see, then ask! Ask to see, and then watch. Watch intently, because he will train your eyes. It may come from an unlikely place. It may hit you when you’re walking down the street. Hell, you might realize it when you’re arguing with someone. Just don’t forget you asked. Don’t forget to watch. I wonder how many people proclaim God didn’t teach them how to see when the real problem is they forgot to watch.

God is always moving, working, weaving. Watch as he brings good out of suffering. Watch as he ends suffering (even when it’s not in the ways we want).

Reflection

How much time do you spend watching for God?

Prayer

I forget, God. I whisper a prayer. Sometimes I shout it. I’ve even demanded. But then I’ve forgotten to watch for your answer. What? Did I expect it to come in the way I outlined? Can I not look for you beyond my confines? Train my eyes, Lord. Someone I love is suffering. I am suffering. Let me see you. Amen.
