Something more
How is it that the Cross (and Christ on it) seems to do far more for me than the resurrected Christ?
Yes, the fact that Jesus Christ went from the Cross into the tomb and out of it is essential in our appreciation of what He has accomplished on our behalf. But, there is something more, and when we suffer, we must have access to this more. There is a power, a grace, a magnificent grace in fact, that comes from the Cross, and Christ on it.
We are not alone as we suffer. Not the prisoner, not the battered spouse, not the person of color, not any who are abused. He was; He is; He will be, with us, and His strength is shared.
And it is also essential for us to realize that when a human being accompanies us, it is uplifting, comforting, strengthening. But, are we aware? Can we open ourselves to the full, ongoing, gifting awareness? When God himself accompanies us, just what is the effect?!
Note John 16:33…
“I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
Reflection
Christ was not only with you as you suffered as a child. He is with you now. Share your suffering with Him. Let Him see it, share it, shoulder it.
Prayer
Jesus Christ, I do not understand You, and I want to! I need to understand! I need You! My suffering is unbearable at times. I want to throw it off, but it hounds me, for You have made us marvelously (Psalm 139:14). We are sensitive, impressionable, yes. But, we are also, in You, resilient and powerful. May I ponder You, Lord, and Your Cross and, with You, overcome the world.
